Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actor and performer whose performance range earned her popular acclaim across a range of styles from period dramas to action and thriller. Johansson, the daughter of a film director and architect, was born in New York City. Hunter was her twin as well as Johansson, were the youngest out of four kids. From a young age she discovered an aptitude for acting and began auditioning commercials at age seven. In order to improve her skills, she attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhattan and then at the Professional Children's School. In the age of eight, she appeared alongside Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry and, at the age of nine she made her feature debut in Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson appeared next on screen in Just Cause (1996), but she was Manny & Lo 1996 that made her famous. It is a story about two young girls that are fleeing. After that, she received appreciation for her portrayal of the teen victim of an injury that is disfiguring on screen in The Horse Whisperer (1998) as well as further recognition as the unpopular teen Rebecca as Rebecca in Ghost World (2001).
